Hello, my name is Bill Schuelbe. Welcome to <proggies2go>™, my personal web site and home of the p2gStereoStage™ 3D stereoscopic media player Flash applet. I have been designing and programming web sites and servers since 1993 (the Mosaic stone age!) and over the years picked up a trick or two about the complex technologies involved. Much of what I've learned came from people who generously shared the wealth of their knowledge by publishing it right here on the Internet. So I figure, it's high time for me to give back to the community and hopefully make life a little easier for those who are just now beginning their quest to become the future WWW experts.
As time goes on, you will find all kinds of tips and tricks for the successful creation and maintenance of your web site on <proggies2go>™ – and the code to go with it. I will concentrate on the tools and techniques I have found to be most useful over the years, so we'll be talking about HTML, CSS, and JavaScript - but also about exciting “new” things like OpenLaszlo, Flex, and Flash. The p2gStereoStage™ 3D media player and the p2gStereoPhoto™ 3D stereoscopic photo display Flash applets, for example, have been created with OpenLaszlo. I like OL a lot. If programming is not your cup of tea, you can download my creations as freeware building blocks to easily incorporate in your web site.
Lastly, many useful and cool things can only be accomplished on the server backend, so we'll have to look at server-side programming, too. Personally, I still like my Apache Server with an installation of the Perl language best, so I'll try to show you how to put both of them to good use. And while we're delving into working with Perl, we'll do some MS Windows programming with the Win32::GUI toolkit as well. I'm planning to update some of my Perl “little helper scripts” to full-fledged applications and I'll make them available as freeware here.
